After a series of speculations of being in and out, the French midfielder is going to play this season under Mourinho. Martial wanted to leave United this summer, which was fueled by Mourinho’s comments of the midfielder not joining the club due to the birth of his child.
The transfer was also confirmed by his agent Philippe Lamboley:
“After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.
“There are lots of factors, and right now it’s too early to talk about them.”
The player may stay because the club is unsuccessful in signing a replacement for Martial. Anthony has been continuously linked of leaving the club, but will not leave the club unless they find someone suitable to take his position.
When asked to United fans by the Manchester Evening polls, 65% of the respondents out of 2600 wanted Anthony Martial to stay, while 35% of them did not agree with a second chance being given to the 22-year-old. That means almost 2/3rd of the fans wanted Martial to stay in Red jersey.
While the midfielder is trying to leave United this summer, the probabilities of him staying around the Reds are increasing. United are not able to find a replacement and have been in terms with Chelsea for a swap deal, but don’t find it worth to swap for a player 7 years elder than Martial. And the £80 million tag that have been put on him, is the reason that is keeping other teams away.
