Mason Mount’s Dad played a secret role in sealing Manchester United transfer

Mason Mount’s father played a behind-the-scenes role in successfully securing his transfer to Manchester United. The transfer deal appeared uncertain as Chelsea initially resisted negotiations over the fee due to the contract dispute involving Mount.

The English midfielder successfully completed his transfer to United, signing a five-year contract with the club. The move faced potential collapse when Chelsea rejected a £55 million bid from United earlier in the previous month.

However, an agreement was eventually reached between the two clubs to proceed with the deal, with the player’s father, Tony Mount, playing a significant role in the negotiations.

According to The Athletic, Tony intervened as United appeared prepared to abandon the deal, helping to facilitate the agreement.

Tony Mount played a crucial role in finalizing his son’s transfer to United by engaging in a phone call with Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

Through this conversation, Tony effectively smoothed out differences and contributed to reaching an agreement between the clubs.

Chelsea’s owners had initially been firm in their valuation of Mount, demanding £70 million plus additional payments. The report highlights that this conversation was pivotal in reigniting negotiations and ultimately concluding the deal.

Prior to the transfer, Mount had been entering the final year of his contract with Chelsea, as the two parties had been unable to reach terms for a new agreement.

After spending 18 years at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has departed Chelsea. His new club has officially announced that the England midfielder will don the iconic number seven shirt, previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo.
