Napoli looking at the possibility to sign Cristiano Ronaldo on loan

As reported by Italian publication Il Mattino, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has spoken with Napoli before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

While Napoli has been by far the most interested team, Jorge Mendes, was unable to convince Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid to make a move for the player.

Despite being in a rush, the Serie A side is willing to accept a loan agreement even if they are reportedly pursuing a permanent deal for the 37-year-old Ronaldo.  Late in the window, Mendes would try to help Ronaldo find a way out and start with a new club.

Erik ten Hag has been willing to let Ronaldo leave for weeks, but Joel Glazer, the club’s co-chairman, has opposed any potential deal.

Ronaldo was benched for United’s two victories over Liverpool and Southampton and has only started one of United’s first four Premier League games, a 4-0 hammering by Brentford.

Ronaldo would be offered Champions League football by Napoli, who have won two and drawn one of their opening three Serie A contests. In addition to receiving a 25% wage cut for finishing outside the top four in the Premier League, Ronaldo was not pleased with the club’s slow-moving transfer market.

News about Ronaldo’s desire to leave United at the beginning of July broke only two days before the Portuguese player was scheduled to return for preseason practice at United’s Carrington training facility.

The Portuguese star was given extended time off and missed the entirety of United’s pre-season tour because of family issues.
