Nottingham Forest close to signing Dean Henderson on loan this week

Nottingham Forest is confident that they will be able to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks are in advanced stages and personal details have been agreed upon between the goalkeeper and the newly promoted club. Henderson currently earns £ 100,000 a week at United and he may get an upgrade on those numbers.

Dean Henderson is keen to play regular football before the World Cup, which begins later this year in Qatar.

Last season, the 25-year-old battled for playing time and only made five appearances for United in 2021-22.

Forest has been obliged to make a hasty decision in order to improve its goalkeeping. Brice Samba has turned down a new contract, and his recent Twitter outburst implies he has no intention of staying.

Henderson is one of the best goalkeepers in the country, and he drew attention during a two-year stint at Sheffield United. In 2018/19, he helped the Blades achieve promotion, and in 2019/20, he was outstanding as they finished ninth in the Premier League.

Dean Henderson has recently been linked with a number of other clubs. Newcastle was interested in him, and Tottenham was also interested at one point. However, both the clubs opted against having him.

Forest now appears to be flexing their ambition, and this has to be considered a statement signing. Their supporters will be hoping for a buy-back option, having been burned by loan arrangements in the past.

Even if that isn’t the case, Forest will have a terrific goalkeeper in their ranks for next season, even if it is only a temporary solution.
