Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has outlined a major first-team role for Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford over the course of this campaign.
Dalot was retained by the United camp beyond this summer’s transfer window which came as a surprise to many considering the talk of the full-back seeking a move away from the club.
The Portugal international had been on loan at AC Milan last season and there had been speculation that the Serie A bigwigs will prioritise a transfer for Dalot to bolster their options at the back.
Dalot, however, could be in the fray for greater involvement with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, hinted the Red Devils boss in his recent remarks to the press, with Solskjaer voicing praise for the player stepping up to the mark while at Milan.
The Norweigan coach sounded out hope of using Dalot’s experience during his stint away from Old Trafford this season for Manchester United with Aaron Wan-Bisaaka needing some competition in the right-back role.
“Yeah, Diogo has had a very good summer of course, being called up into the Euros, he did well for Portugal Under-21s.’’
“He had a season in which he learned a lot from in Milan, he kept fit, that was a big thing, and he’s got qualities we will look to try and exploit more and more.”
“He’s got more experience now, and we’re not here to just loan players out for years and years. Last year’s loan was to give him that experience and game time, and I think he did well when he came on the other night.”
