Following the loss at Anfield, Manchester United has been struck another major injury setback. Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba had suffered a calf injury while playing against Liverpool.
Ralf Rangnick has confirmed the degree of Paul Pogba’s calf muscle injury, which he suffered in the first half of the match against Liverpool.
Pogba joins a long list of first-team players who have been injured in recent weeks, including Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Fred, and Edinson Cavani, who were all ruled out of the Liverpool game, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is on family leave.
The number of injuries and absences from first-team players could prove to be a major setback for Manchester United in their quest to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season.
There are chances that Pogba may be unavailable to play against Arsenal and Chelsea.
As reported by the club’s official website, Ralf Rangnick said:
“He pulled his calf muscle and, as it seems right now, this will not be an injury like the one Fred has which will be gone in one week. I fear he will not be available for Arsenal or Chelsea.”
If Pogba would not return on time, the squad and, in particular, the midfield, will be weakened even more ahead of the difficult Chelsea and Arsenal fixtures. However, Scott McTominay was on the bench at Anfield and is expected to be fit for the games ahead following a foot injury.
Pogba is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after failing to reach an agreement with the club to extend his contract. With only five games remaining, the “La Pioche” will be out of contract, and if his injury is more serious, it may have been the last time we see the 29-year-old in a Man United shirt last night.
The Red Devils are still in sixth place in the Premier League, while Arsenal is three points ahead of them in the fifth place.
But both the Gunners and fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur have one game in hand on Man United, so Rangnick will have to hope that both London clubs drop points to keep his team in contention for a fourth-place finish.
