The latest reports claim that Premier League outfit Manchester United are preparing a deal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff in the summer transfer window as the Magpies are believed to allowing the English star to leave the club.
The Red Devils endured a torturous season in the Premier League as they finished in sixth place without any real chance of fighting for silverware. But after the sacking of Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho back in December, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken over and vowed to guide the club to success over the next few years.
But Solskjaer has plenty of work to be done if he plans to win silverware on a regular basis and get the 20-time Premier League winners back to the summit of English football. The 46-year-old Norwegian manager has already signed up Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka to improve his squad but the spending spree is not close to the end yet for Solskjaer.
The most recent reports claim that United are eyeing up a swoop for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff over the next few weeks to bolster their squad.
After the departure of Marouane Fellaini to China back in the January transfer window and the loss of Ander Herrera to Paris Saint Germain in the summer, United are falling short on midfield options. Even the speculation revolving Paul Pogba makes it uncertain if the World Cup winning French midfielder would remain at the Theatre of Dreams or not.
United are now keen on luring Longstaff to Old Trafford in a £20 million bid but the Magpies believe that their prized asset is valued around £50 million if he will leave St James’ Park. Longstaff broke into the starting eleven for Newcastle United towards the back end of the season and put in some impressive displays to help Newcastle remain in the top flight which attracted interest from Solskjaer’s United.
The 21-year-old midfielder, unfortunately, picked up an injury which ruled him out for the final few games of the campaign, however, Newcastle now believes that there is nothing they can do from stopping Longstaff join United and are mentally prepared to allow him to leave the club.
