Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw away to Southampton despite having 8 shots on target and 21 shots overall and former United center-back Rio Ferdinand has voiced his concerns over the poor quality of attacking in the final third.
The 40 year old Ferdinand said, “I think the main part is they haven’t been ruthless or clinical enough in front of goal when they have had games and positions to win,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
“Wolves, they got back in the game against [Crystal] Palace, and here again today.
“They had teams waiting there to be beaten and they didn’t have the ruthlessness, maybe the experience, the nouse, to get over the line.”
United have had a poor start to the season so far with just one victory in four games in the premier league with the only win coming in the 4-0 victory against Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan with no replacement signed to replace the Belgian international, this decision may prove costly for United with United struggling to replace the forwards goals. Marcus Rashford started as the lone forward for United against Southampton but question marks remain over whether the England international is better suited on the left-wing. Mason Greenwood who came of the bench is the other option but with United, under pressure, it may be the wrong time to throw the 17-year-old in the deep end.
