Former Manchester United forward Romelu has stated that he felt like a scapegoat at Old Trafford ahead of his move to the Serie A to join Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku joined Manchester United back in the summer of 2017 for a mammoth transfer fee of £75 million from Merseyside club Everton and there were loads of high expectations from the Belgian forward. Although Lukaku was a regular goalscorer in his first season at Old Trafford, he was also seen to be missing a lot of chances on a regular basis and he wasn’t really living up to that hefty price tag.
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as manager of the club, Lukaku saw his game time drastically reduce because the Norwegian boss preferred pace over a big center-forward. The writing was on the wall that the 26-year-old forward was set to leave the Theatre Of Dreams in the summer transfer window and Inter Milan decided to swoop in for Lukaku.
Since joining Inter Milan, Lukaku has scored two goals in as many games for Antonio Conte’s team and the Belgian striker claimed that he felt mistreated by Solskjaer after falling out of favor with the Norwegian.
While speaking to ESPN, Lukaku said, “Scapegoated, Meaning ‘You. Are. The. Reason.” He was also asked about the comments made by Gary Neville labeling him overweight and unprofessional, to which Lukaku replied, “Normally I have a fine digestive system, Lukaku explained. I digest everything very quickly. That’s how it had been my entire life. But what the nutritionist said to me was it had stopped working. I’m good now. My body is in the zone”
