Harry Maguire has been heavily criticised lately, following his brawl in a night club in Mykonos, where he was enjoying his vacations. The United captain was convicted with three charges, which now stand nullified because of his appeal in a senior court. In such a tough time for Maguire, former United captain, Wayne Rooney, has voiced his support for the centre-back.
The 27-year old defender was sentenced to a prison of 21 months and 10 days, which was then suspended as it was his first offence in Greece. Harry Maguire has appealed for a re-trail and his ask has been granted. There will be a subsequent re-trail in a senior court, and till then, all the charges on Harry Maguire have been nullified.
Sighting his sentence earlier, Maguire was also dropped from the English national team squad for the two Nations League games in September. With the whole world turned against Maguire, Wayne Rooney has come to the support of the centre-back while having an interview with TalkSport. Rooney said: “Knowing Harry the way I know him, it’s completely not his character, it’s out of character, everything that was reported to have happened.”
He also added “Harry’s not that type of person at all. He was out there with his girlfriend, his family and friends and their girlfriends, so it’s not a group of lads, where sometimes things happen. So, in my opinion, something has gone on that has maybe provoked him.”
Harry Maguire is a very important player for Manchester United and the Three Lions and thus it is important for all parties that he comes out clean.
