Scott McTominay Rejected Loan Move To Remain at Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay revealed there was a possibility of him leaving Old Trafford on loan at one stage in his career, but he wanted to stay and show he deserved to play for the Red Devils.

Top Premier League teams often send out talented young players for temporary spells at other clubs, allowing them to get regular first-team minutes to further their development. Upon return, they have minutes under their belt and lush for a starting berth at their parent club.

Scotland’s combative midfield gem McTominay appeared set to depart United at one stage after coming through the youth academy, yet opted to stay at the red half of Manchester instead.

The 23-year-old made his debut under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho during a 2-0 loss to North London side Arsenal in May 2017 and while the ‘Special One’ is no longer in charge of Manchester United, McTominay has continued to blossom under current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Despite his impressive rise through the ranks at one of the biggest clubs in world football, McTominay insisted it is important to remain grounded especially at Manchester United.

While speaking on the UTD podcast, McTominay revealed he considered leaving Manchester United on a loan deal, “About a year-and-a-half ago, there was a time when it [a loan move] might have been a possibility but then somebody else leaves or something like that, Then your opportunity comes and you have to take it. You hear loads of stories about boys going on loan, and different things like that, and I always had it in my head that I don’t want that. I want to be showing myself here first and, if it doesn’t work here, then you go somewhere else.”

McTominay made 20 Premier League appearances for Manchester United scoring four goals in the process, despite an injury struck campaign in 2019-20.
