Sevilla closing on Alex Telles deal after player accepts offer

Manchester United fullback Alex Telles might be on his way out of Old Trafford soon after reportedly accepting an offer to play for a Spanish team.

Given the acquisition of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord this season, Telles might find it difficult to play regularly under Erik ten Hag. The 22-year-old will probably fill in at left-back for Luke Shaw.

Telles is now third on the Manchester United full-back list, behind Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who are ready to compete for a spot in the starting XI. The six-cap Brazil international is therefore ready to sign with a new team for the 2022–23 season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano offered his opinion on Telles’ future. According to the Italian reporter, he is wanted by two to three parties.

Contrary to rumours that Porto are interested, Telles’ old team has no intention of holding a formal reunion.

Sevilla is the only club listed by Romano who is interested. But in order to conclude a loan agreement, United must contribute to the defender’s wage. He is said to make £93,000 each week, which Sevilla cannot afford.

Hence, Romano has now provided an update by asserting that an agreement has been reached between the Spanish squad and United for the signing of Telles.

The 29-year-old has “accepted” Sevilla’s offer and is getting ready to join Julen Lopetegui’s team. The Red Devils and Sevilla are only putting the finishing touches on their agreement as negotiations come to a close.

This summer, Sevilla have been searching for a new left-back and have previously targeted Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon.

The Spanish man’s negotiations have reached an “advanced” stage. Additionally, Sevilla chose Telles over Reguilon even though Antonio Conte was willing to let Reguilon leave.

After a season-long loan, it might be less expensive to sign the latter choice on a permanent basis.

Not only Telles, but other United players are expected to go in the upcoming weeks. Aaron Wan Bissaka, Phil Jones, and Eric Bailly could also leave as part of the rebuilding process.
