Solksjaer: It was not a good season for Manchester United

Manchester United was left totally disappointed as Villarreal won the Europa League after David De Gea neglected to score in the penalty shootout.

It has been a period of progress however going prizeless for four seasons straight doesn’t search useful for a club like United. After the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked as to whether he felt the club had a fruitful season. He answered with a dull “no”

The choice to bring in Solkjsaer as the manager for United has given very little progress for the club. It was exceptionally certain that the team is as yet not sufficient to challenge for the enormous trophies. Their performance in the Premier League this term has been far superior to many who anticipated.

While talking to BT Sport, Solksajer was not happy as he said: “We need to get better, simple as. We’ve done really well this season coming through. The start was difficult. We had no pre-season and lost three of the first six. We pushed in the league, maybe got closer to the top than we thought and we got to a final. But you need to win the finals to make it a good season.”

To complete second in the League and going all season unbeaten away from home is clearly an indication of progress. Nonetheless, losing the European finals against a Spanish club that completed in the seventh spot in La Liga isn’t worthy. None of their big players turned up for the evening.

Villarreal was defensively fearless in their 4-4-2 development and didn’t permit any of the United players to run behind them. They shut down every one of the spaces and cleared all the danger created by any semblance of Bruno Fernandes or Marcus Rashford.

Winning a trophy to cover off their season was needed to support their team for the next season yet they neglected to get it going. The manager has a difficult task to do in the transfer market now.

He needs a few quality signings to make a strong Manchester United team that can challenge for the title. In the event that he neglects to sign his top targets in this mid-year, Red Devils fans may need to prepare themselves for another difficult season.
