Ole Gunner Solskjaer has learnt that he would have to shell out £40 million to acquire Bundesliga sensation, Leon Bailey.
Manchester United FC’s attempts to sign an attacker in recent weeks have proven futile. Long-term targets Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish do not seem to be coming to Old Trafford any time soon.
With Solskjaer being priced out of deals for both Grealish and Sancho, Bailey is a suitable cut-price alternative for the Red Devils. The player has shone for Bayer Leverkusen in recent seasons in the Bundesliga. The player had joined the German side from Belgian outfit Genk in 2017.
Chelsea FC had been linked to the 22-year old Bailey previously during Antonio Conte’s time as the Blues manager.
However, Bailey stayed put in Germany and soon became a first-team player for Leverkusen. The Jamaican international has amassed over 80 appearances for the Bundesliga side so far. His performances in the Leverkusen shirt has been lauded on many occasions by analysts.
A possible move for Bailey would come amid Premier League teams recruiting talents from the Bundesliga. Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of Timo Werner and hoping to finalize the signing of Bailey’s teammate Kai Havertz. Moreover. there is significant interest in singing Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho from several Premier League sides.
Manchester United FC are desperate, especially a right-winger. With the current attackers except for Marcus Rashford misfiring for the Red Devils, signing Leon Bailey would be a huge boost for Solskjaer’s side. The player has scored seven goals so far in the 27 Bundesliga appearances he has made this season.
Bayer Leverkusen will reportedly demand a fee of £40 million to let Bailey leave for Old Trafford. The 22-year-old winger still has three years left on his existing contract with the Bundesliga side. However, the Jamaican international would be keen on a move to Old Trafford due to the player wanting to progress further in his career.
Red Devils chances to sign talented players in the summer depends upon Solskjaer’s side sealing a Champions League berth for next season. Failure to guarantee Champions League football to players like Bailey or Sancho would be a major blow to Manchester United FC’s chances of signing them.
