Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Thomas Tuchel will not accept the Manchester United managerial role after holding discussions with co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach had emerged as a prime contender to replace Erik ten Hag, under intense criticism following a poor 2023/2024 season.
Despite winning the FA Cup against Manchester City, Ten Hag’s standing at the club is still at risk.
For more than two weeks now, Manchester United, led by INEOS, has been reviewing their season.
The findings of that review will likely decide the manager’s future. During that period, United has been quietly talking to leading agents to find a possible replacement for Ten Hag.
This has included the people representing the likes of Gareth Southgate, new Napoli manager Roberto De Zerbi, and names including Tuchel.
The possibility that Tuchel would take the reins at Manchester United seemed to gain momentum after news regarding a meeting between Ratcliffe and Tuchel was held in Monaco.

At this meeting, Tuchel reportedly put forward a perception of how exactly he would raise United. His focus circled around rejuvenating underperforming players, including Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho.
This report came from sources close to The Times and The Daily Mail.
Matt Lawton of The Times and Mike Keegan of The Daily Mail went a step further to say that the end-of-season review would come up with a clear stand this week.
Coupled with the discussions Ratcliffe held with Tuchel, it appeared that Tuchel might be the new coach at Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano, however, has taken to X: “Thomas Tuchel NOT planning to take Man United job, he wants to take a break not coaching any club this summer.”
But that leaves United now with few choices for a new manager. In case the club decides to part ways with Ten Hag, it would take a lot of the club’s investment and time to identify and pool in resources and switch to the next manager.
Ten Hag was regarded as a good future choice, but a Premier League Crown next season will be quite difficult for him. The FA Cup win came as a respite, but it solidified nothing for him.
As the club continues to stumble through a period of change, there is likely to be a shift in focus toward the change in manager and searching for someone who can bring stability back to Manchester United and take the team toward a fresh start for success.
The search for a new manager will permit an appropriate analysis of United’s future. With that clear, Thomas Tuchel has rejected an offer to coach Manchester United, and instead, he will go for a rest.
As Manchester United’s governance concludes the end-of-the-season review, the future of Erik ten Hag remains unknown, and the search for a new manager may soon be in motion.
