According to the Guardian, Manchester United is keeping a close eye on the French market for alternative options in case they fail to secure the signing of Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae.
Min-jae is the club’s primary target as they aim to strengthen their defence, and they are currently in contact with his representatives.
It is expected that the South Korean center-back’s release clause will become active in July. Pursuing the Napoli defender suggests that Harry Maguire’s future at the club is uncertain.
The Man United captain is set to have discussions about his future with manager Erik Ten Hag in the coming week, and both parties reportedly acknowledge that a transfer would be beneficial.
Despite being out of favour, Maguire still has two years remaining on his £190,000-a-week contract.

It is believed that Maguire wants regular playing time, which could be limited if Min-jae joins the team. The English star is reportedly seeking a move to a club where he can be assured of a starting position, which would also enhance his chances of maintaining his place in the England national team.
While Min-jae is considered an upgrade over Maguire, the Red Devils have backup plans in place. They have been linked with talented centre-backs in Ligue 1, such as Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice and Axel Disasi from AS Monaco.
Todibo, who has excelled since leaving Barcelona, could provide quality cover and competition for Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
Disasi, a French international, has been on United’s radar since January and may see a move to Old Trafford as an opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter.
If securing Min-jae’s signature proves difficult, the Red Devils will closely monitor Disasi and other options in the French market, ensuring they have ample quality alternatives to pursue.
