United looking for Federico Chiesa and Ousmane Dembele as Sancho’s alternatives

Manchester United FC are plotting a summer transfer move for Sancho but his transfer fee will be a problem for United. Dortmund are holding out for a transfer fee of over £100m, which will be difficult for United to pay because of the pandemic. Thus the Red Devils have been looking for his alternatives and have shortlisted Federico Chiesa and Ousmane Dembele.

Both, Chiesa and Dembele, will be available for much cheaper than Sancho and United might take their case seriously. Chiesa plays for Fiorentina currently and looks to be on the move to a bigger club. His performances in the Serie-A have attracted a lot of attention from clubs like Inter Milan, Manchester United and Juventus.

This season, Chiesa has played 27 games for Fiorentina and has scored six goals and provided five assists in that time. The Italian international can play down both the wings and will be suited to United’s fast-paced football. But securing his services for United will be difficult as he is linked heavily with Inter Milan as well.

Ousmane Dembele has been a huge flop at Barcelona and has played only five games for the Catalunya side. His move in 2017 from Dortmund was a big-money move and Dembele was deemed as Neymar’s replacement at Barcelona. But since then, Dembele has succumbed to numerous injuries and his disciplinary record has been questioned several times because of his immature behaviour.

The pacy Frenchman is quite unstoppable when he is on song, but it comes once in a blue moon. His pace and trickery have caused problems whenever he is on the field, but more often than not he is injured. To put that into context, the 23-year old has missed 86 games for Barcelona and has played only 74 games.

Both Dembele and Chiesa are young and pacy players and fit into Solskjaer’s philosophy at United, but will take time to settle at England. If the Red Devils don’t get Jadon Sancho this summer they will surely get either of Chiesa or Dembele. But with United’s interests, it will be interesting to see who dons the Red Devils shirt at the start of next season.
