United target Cody Gakpo highly unlikely to join Leeds United

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is said to have changed his mind about going to Leeds United and has informed the team that he is no longer interested in signing with them.

Several Premier League clubs have been linked to Gakpo in recent months, with Manchester United, Leeds, Southampton, and Everton among the teams rumoured to have expressed interest in the forward during the summer transfer window.

According to rumours that surfaced last week, Leeds has reached an agreement to sign the 23-year-old and will welcome him to Elland Road in January.

However, according to The Athletic, Gakpo has reportedly changed his mind about the switch after hearing that other elite clubs are interested in signing him.

The Dutch international is optimistic that a good World Cup campaign could boost interest in him even more and result in a career moulding move during the January transfer window.

Though his transfer fee might rise if Gakpo maintains his impressive recent form through to the World Cup in Qatar, PSV is believed to be seeking a minimum of £30 million for the Netherlands international.

In just 16 games in all competitions so far this season, the forward has assisted on 23 goals, scoring 13 and setting up another 10 for his teammates.

In addition, Gakpo recorded 21 goals and 15 assists in all competitions last season, a performance that put him on the radar of several clubs.

Gakpo said that he had been planning to sign with the Red Devils up to the last week of the transfer window but ultimately opted against it because he didn’t want to change teams before the World Cup.
