United target Jonathan David wants to join a big club in the future

Lille striker Jonathan David looks to have given Manchester United the green light to pursue him during the January transfer window.

David has performed admirably in Ligue 1 this year, scoring nine goals in just 12 appearances. Since his arrival in France, he has consistently scored goals, taking home the Ligue 1 title with Les Dogues in his debut campaign.

His outstanding performances over the previous three seasons have led to rumours that he will leave Stade Pierre-Mauroy. As Erik ten Hag sought to expand his options, United was one of the teams reportedly interested in the Canadian over the summer transfer window.

Although the transfer fell through, the club might return in January to plan another move. United do require a new striker after the ongoing issues with Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial’s injury problems.

David has encouraged speculations that he would join Manchester United by admitting that he will consider leaving Lille at some time in the future. Despite the fact that he still has three years left on his contract, he admitted that he wants to play for a big club.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“The next step is growing, having more ambition and a bigger club. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life, so I think if I had the chance to do it, I’ll go for it for sure.”

“I think they’re two different leagues [the Premier League and La Liga], but I can adapt to both, for sure. With the experience that I’ve had in France, it will help me a lot if I need to adapt to someplace else a lot faster so, yeah, I think that both leagues would suit me.”

David moved from Gent to Lille in 2020 and believes that his knowledge of adjusting to a new league will be useful if he decides to move on. In addition, he is getting ready to represent Canada at the World Cup in Qatar, where he is hoping that his team will perform well.

Currently, United have been linked with a host of strikers as it seems that the club are in urgent need of attacking players. Ronaldo and Rashford are the lone two strikers available right now.

Although Ten Hag has preferred to use Rashford more often, the English striker has lacked the end product at times. Ronaldo continues to draw the attention regarding his future and that leaves a void to fill.

It remains to be seen whether David would be granted his wish of signing for a big club like Manchester United.
