Valencia fear Man United may make a surprise move for captain Jose Gaya

Valencia are concerned that Manchester United might make a last-minute move to loan their captain, Jose Gaya, before the upcoming transfer deadline, as reported by Deportes COPE.

The Red Devils are actively seeking an emergency left-back in the transfer market. While they have already reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, finalizing the deal remains uncertain.

United have proposed a £2 million loan fee for Gaya, but Chelsea are holding out for at least £7 million to let go of the versatile defender, which could be a potential obstacle.

Given these circumstances, United are exploring alternative options. While Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso is still on their radar, there’s now speculation that they might unexpectedly pursue Gaya.

Gaya has spent his entire career at Valencia, but the club is anxious that he could depart for United.

Having made more than 325 appearances for Valencia since his debut, the Spanish player boasts extensive experience in La Liga and has been associated with prominent clubs like Barcelona.

In our assessment, he would be a valuable addition to Man United. Gaya, who primarily operates as a left-back, displayed an impressive 81 per cent passing accuracy in the previous season. Additionally, he averaged 2.6 successful tackles, five duels won per game, and 1.3 clearances.

On the offensive front, he made a significant impact with one goal, four assists, and an impressive tally of creating 10 major goal-scoring opportunities. Notably, the 28-year-old consistently delivered over one successful cross per game, showcasing his crossing ability.

While Gaya does have a drawback in terms of occasional possession loss, his style of play aligns well with the manager’s preferences.

Transfermarkt currently values him at €30 million, but there’s a possibility of securing him initially through a loan arrangement.
