Every Manchester United fan is familiar with the bond Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson shared together at the club. He was like a son to an inspiring father.
Rooney was signed from Everton when he was just 14 years of age and then the rest is history. He went on to become the leading goal-scorer in the club’s history with 253 goals in all competitions.
But things were not actually that smooth in the beginning. The England attacker was having a good time at Everton and wanted to play with the Toffees for a longer time.

However, then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson tried to make contact with Rooney to bring him to Old Trafford. The plan didn’t go as per expected as the childish Rooney hilariously rejected to talk to the manager.
The former England international wasn’t shy enough to reveal the words that he said to his father during the time Sir Alex Ferguson came in calling for his signature.
As revealed by Daily Star, Wayne Rooney said:
“Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign me when I was 14. He was on the phone with my mum and dad. They said, ‘Alex is on the phone, Manchester United wants to sign you’. I said, ‘Tell him to f*** off. I want to play for Everton. Then, as time went on, I knew I had to play for Alex Ferguson. The reason I signed for United was Alex Ferguson.”
We don’t think Sir Alex Ferguson would have been impressed by Rooney’s response. But he is perfectly fine, as those words didn’t reach the manager’s ears.
The legendary striker went on to join Manchester United when he was 18 years old for approx. £26 million. He soon established himself as a starter in a team that was already filled with world-class players.
