According to the Athletic, West Ham United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign English centre-back Harry Maguire from Manchester United for a fee of £30 million.
This comes after United originally acquired Maguire from Leicester City in 2019 for a fee of £80 million. Despite the significant loss of £50 million in value, United seems willing to proceed with the sale.
Maguire fell behind in the defender’s pecking order under manager Erik ten Hag during the previous season, participating in only 16 Premier League matches and subsequently losing the captaincy.
The English footballer currently finds himself ranked below Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof in terms of preference rate.
The decision by Ten Hag to appoint Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes as the captain effectively signalled the probable end of Maguire’s time with the club.

The English star is now set to revive his career with West Ham, after a warning from England national team manager Gareth Southgate that his limited playing time at the club level might negatively influence his status in the national team.
Given their struggles in the previous season, West Ham are seeking quality defensive options, and Maguire believes he has a good chance of securing a spot in David Moyes’ starting lineup.
The Red Devils are receiving a respectable fee for the transfer and will shift their attention to offloading other players who are not part of their plans for the upcoming season.
West Ham have expressed interest in acquiring United midfielder Scott McTominay.
However, their initial bid of £30 million has been rejected by their opponents, who are holding out for a higher sum of £45 million. There’s a possibility that the Hammers might come back with an improved offer.

Man United have already made signings, including Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund. They are also expected to offload players, with Eric Bailly and Fred likely to be sold, in addition to the already completed transfers of Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga.
Furthermore, the club is contemplating the sale of Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, and Brandon Williams. This is part of their strategy to generate funds for new signings this summer.
