Manchester United have been linked to Jadon Sancho since last summer but haven’t yet made a bid for the Englishman. Reportedly, United had looked at alternatives for Sancho, but none so seriously, as Sancho is their primary target this summer transfer window. It is now being reported that United passed up the chance to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen, instead of Jadon Sancho.
Kai Havertz and Jadon Sancho were one of the best young players in the Bundesliga last season. Both the players have also been at the centre of attraction for rumours, linking them to several big clubs. But with Chelsea signing Havertz earlier this week, Manchester Evening News reported that United always looked at Havertz as an alternative to Sancho rather than an additional signing.
Chelsea broke their transfer record for signing Kai Havertz, who is very much like-to-like with Jadon Sancho. Sancho has been valued at £108m, whereas Chelsea signed Havertz for about £71m, which is less than £30m of Sancho’s valuation. The Red Devils opted against signing Havertz for Leverkusen’s original asking price of £90m.
Manchester United are still favourites to sign Sancho this summer and many believe Sancho will play at Old Trafford next season.
