Aston Villa set to sign Sergio Romero

Sergio Romero has been a great servant for Manchester United and has delivered almost every time he was called into action. But with Dean Henderson signing a new contract, Romero’s departure is a surety, if when more likely than how. It is now being reported by Laurie Whitewall of The Atletic, Aston Villa are very close to signing Sergio Romero from United.

The Argentine international has found minutes hard to come by, especially after the restart in the cup and European games. But even last season he had pulled off some unbelievable number with 5 clean-sheets in 17 games, with only 12 goals conceded. Romero was disappointed when Solskjaer decided to field De Gea in goal in the crunch games of the FA Cup and the Europa League.

Romero was a started and the FA Cup and Europa League games but in both the semi-finals he was on the bench. Reportedly Aston Villa are keen to get the services of the 33-year old veteran, who United value at about £8-10m. The deal is very likely to go through as Romero wants to leave and United want to generate funds through sales.

Manchester United will be happy to let go of Romero but there is no doubt that the Argentine has been a loyal servant of the club.
