There might be a twist in Manchester United’s pursuit of goalkeeper Diogo Costa as Chelsea has reportedly shown renewed interest in the Porto star, as stated by Record.
With David de Gea’s future uncertain, the Red Devils are actively searching for a new goalkeeper in the transfer market.
Record reports that Costa could be the subject of talks after the Red Devils have ignited their interest in the 23-year-old. United had previously assessed Costa’s value at €35 million (£30 million), a significantly lower amount than his €75 million (£64 million) release clause.
However, Chelsea’s recent interest in the player has intensified the competition, potentially pressuring United to accelerate their efforts to secure his signature.
Erik ten Hag’s side has been closely monitoring the Portuguese keeper, with scouts attending matches at Estadio do Dragao for several months.

However, the club has not made an official approach yet, possibly due to the uncertainty surrounding De Gea’s contract situation. The Spaniard has rejected a substantial pay cut on his £375,000-a-week salary and could leave on a free transfer next month.
In the event of De Gea’s departure, United would need to make a significant investment in a new goalkeeper, and Costa could be a viable candidate due to his age and experience.
At just 23 years old, Costa is Portugal’s number-one goalkeeper. He performed exceptionally well for Porto last season, showcasing a pass accuracy of 77 per cent and delivering 7.3 long balls per game.
He also impressed with a save percentage of 74 and successfully saved three consecutive penalties in the Champions League group stage.
Costa would undoubtedly represent an upgrade over De Gea, who made four errors leading to goals last season. The key question now is whether United can swiftly negotiate a transfer deal for the Porto star this month.

His parent club is eager to balance their books by June 30 and may be open to selling him below his buy-out clause. United must act fast, or Chelsea could secure his signature before them.
