Manchester United FC are keen on selling some of their players this transfer window to generate funds for recruits. Ed Woodward is looking to sell up to six players this window amongst which includes ex-United captain Chris Smalling. It is now being reported that Juventus are interested in Smalling and would offer Bernadeschi for the English centre-back.
Solskjaer didn’t have Smalling in his long-term plans after the signing of Maguire and sent the former United captain on-loan to AS Roma. The English centre-half adjusted well to life in the Italian capital as has rejuvenated his career at Roma. He has been an integral part of the Roma side and has been one of the finds of the season in Serie-A.
The 30-year old defender has featured in 29 games for Roma in Serie-A this season and has provided three goals and two assists. He has been a rock at the heart of the Roma defence and has earned plaudits with his performances. AS Roma and United both want the defender to stay in Italy but haven’t yet agreed on terms of the deal.
Seeing the complications in this deal, Juventus are ready to hijack Roma’s attempt to sign Smalling permanently. The Old Lady want have recently shown interest in Smalling and are willing to send Bernardeschi to the other side. The Italian has been struggling at Turin since his arrival in 2017 and is seeking a way out from the club.
Bernardeschi has appeared in 28 games in the Serie-A, but the winger has only one goal and one assist to his name. United are in the search of a winger and had an eye on Federico Bernardeschi as an alternative for Sancho. But with Sancho almost set for a move to the United, this deal might not pan out as Juventus want it to.
The Red Devils are eager to sell Smalling and use the funds to get a new player into the team. But, a swap deal is very unlikely as United would rather want cash for Smalling. With the end of the transfer two months far from now, expect the unexpected.
