Bruno Fernandes Gives Update On His Future Plans

Midfielder Bruno Fernandes has given an interesting update on his future with Manchester United beyond this season.

Bruno Fernandes

The 29-year-old was signed from Sporting CP in 2020 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was given the captain’s armband by Erik ten Hag this season, replacing Harry Maguire in the leadership role.

Fernandes has been a consistent performer for the Red Devils and this season he has been at the top of the charts for the English giants.

The captain has scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for United this season. He has not missed a single game due to injury this campaign.

However, in a recent update, it has been claimed that the midfielder is included in the list of players the club wants to sell this summer.

The Portuguese maestro was asked about whether he wants to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming months but the midfielder insisted that he is focused on the upcoming competitions.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“I’m not thinking about other things at the moment. Not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far. We could still end the season by winning the [FA] Cup. After that, we have a very important Euros coming up.”

This means that we won’t be hearing anything from the player’s side until July. Fernandes will be focused on the FA Cup final with Man Utd and the Euro 2024 with Portugal.

His contract with the Red Devils will expire in 2026 plus he has the option to extend it for one more year. The senior player will be in his 30s and it makes sense for the club to look for his successor.

Fernandes can provide more to the team and also give valuable insights to the youngsters present in the squad. However, we don’t see him staying beyond his current contract.

The club might listen to offers if any potential suitor is interested in signing him. Until now, there have been no updates on his future and it remains to be seen whether United continues to back Fernandes next season.

It’s unlikely that they will make a sudden sale and there are huge chances that the Portuguese will stay put at Old Trafford for a few more years.
