Man Utd Chasing Sporting Star Morten Hjulmand This Summer

According to the Portuguese outlet Record, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Sporting CP defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand this summer.

Morten Hjulmand

The 24-year-old  Morten Hjulmand has had a remarkable season for the Primeira Liga leaders. He averages 1.8 tackles per game with 54 per cent success in winning ground duels.

He also possesses an 87 per cent passing accuracy which is quite decent. Morten Hjulmand’s value is rising since he is getting a lot of attention from clubs like Man United and Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder this summer.

Casemiro’s recent injury issues and recent links to Saudi Arabia have prompted the club to look for alternatives in the transfer market.

Although it is too early to compare Morten Hjulmand with the Brazilian star, the Sporting midfielder possesses the skills to play at the highest level.

It might be a chance for the 21-time English champion to test his parent club’s stance.

They will ask a fee in the region of €80 million for their star player.

This fee might be difficult for Barcelona to meet since they are dealing with Financial Fair Play regulations. United could also try to lower that fee since they have other options on the table.

Ten Hag’s side have built their midfield prodigy in Kobbie Mainoo and they will be working to sign another young player who can form a long-term pairing with the English ace.

Morten Hjulmand is a player who can play an aggressive game in the middle of the field. His playing style resembles that of Casemiro.

However, it remains to be seen whether the former Real Madrid star decides to leave the club or continues to work on his fitness in the summer.

If he prefers to stay at Old Trafford then the club might look for a much cheaper alternative as cover to the South American.

Only time will tell whether there will be any changes in their transfer plans ahead of a gruelling transfer window.
