Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged the club to sign Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic in the January transfer window.
Mandzukic, 33, was a target for United in the summer, but it is clear that he is not in Sarri’s plans with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, and Paulo Dybala all preferred instead.
He was left out of Juve’s Champions League squad along with former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
Manchester United are in need of reinforcements up front with Marcus Rashford misfiring and Anthony Martial injured. Romelu Lukaku was sold in the summer to Inter Milan with no replacement signed
Dimitar Berbatov who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2008 for a then-record fee of £30.75 million believes that Mandzukic is the ideal striker for United despite his age.
‘They have the talent in the young players but at the same time you need someone like Mandzukic,’ he told Betfair.
‘I think he is a really good football player and he hasn’t played before in England, but I hope if he comes he can straight away get into the rhythm of the Premier League. ‘Zlatan Ibrahimovic was 34 years old when he signed for United and he didn’t have any problems.
‘Mandzukic is a similar age and hope he could have the same impact if he signs. ‘I think his age is a good thing, (Anthony) Martial, (Marcus) Rashford and (Mason) Greenwood are all young players so they need that time and assurance that they don’t need to worry and they can learn from the experience of Mandzukic.’

The Croatian has played for some big clubs in his career which include Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid and will not be overawed by the surrounding at Old Trafford.
