Manchester United preparing to extend Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract

Manchester United are preparing to activate a one-year contract extension option for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which would ensure his stay at the club until the summer of 2025, as reported by the Daily Mail.

While the full-back had a challenging start under Erik ten Hag, he has become a key component of the Dutch manager’s squad. However, his participation this season has been hampered by injuries.

The 25-year-old had played in five Premier League matches this season, even providing an assist, before suffering a hamstring injury during a 3-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion last month.

Initially, discussions for a new contract were in progress after the summer transfer window, but they have stalled due to his extended period of inactivity.

Despite this, Man United are being cautious about Wan-Bissaka’s future at Old Trafford and is expected to utilize a one-year contract extension clause to secure his services in the long term.

Discussions about a new long-term contract for the defender are expected to begin at some point this season, but the club intends to let the English star concentrate on his recovery for now.

Wan-Bissaka rejoined first-team training before the Manchester derby, but manager Ten Hag chose not to take the risk of playing him in the 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

It’s still uncertain whether he will pass a fitness test ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Carabao Cup fourth-round match against Newcastle United.

Nevertheless, Wan-Bissaka has the best opportunity to return to the starting lineup against Fulham next week.

The Red Devils are determined to get back to winning ways as they face Newcastle, but they should also be careful of the opposition’s attacking threat, considering that the Magpies eliminated Manchester City in the third round of the competition.
