Solskjaer dismisses talk about Erling Haaland transfer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dismissed talk of the red devils making a bid for Red Bull Salzburg’s rising star Erling Braut Haaland.

The 19-year-old scored twice in the 3-2 defeat against Napoli in the Champions League this week.

In doing so, he became the first player to have scored six goals in his first three Champions League appearances.

Haaland’s stock has risen in recent months with speculation linking him with the likes of Liverpool and Juventus.

The 19-year-old made a statement when he scored nine goals in a single match against Honduras in the FIFA U-20 World Cup last summer. He subsequently won the golden boot in the competition.

Solskjaer knows his Norwegian compatriot Haaland, 19, very well from their time together at Molde before the former United favorite returned to Old Trafford as manager last December.

But Solskjaer is reluctant to be drawn on talk of a move for Haaland.

‘I don’t think it’s the time now for me to talk about other teams’ strikers,’ said Solskjaer. ‘I spoke about Harry Kane yesterday and Erling today, I don’t think it’s right for me.’

United are in desperate need of a striker up front with Marcus Rashford misfiring and Anthony Martial missing through injury. the red devils sold Romelu Lukaku in the summer to Serie A side Inter Milan and have been left to regret the decision.

The club is expected to sign a striker in January to challenge Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for their places and have been heavily linked with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic who is out-of-favor under Maurizio Sarri.
