Manchester United after the Fergie era has fallen tremendously. It has reached rock-bottom and competing for the title has long gone. On the other hand, United has spent more money than a lot of top tier clubs in the transfer window.
United is desperate to win some trophies and getting in a perfectly balanced coach who can play both defensively and offensively should make the team compete for the title.
Under Ole, United had a good head start to the 2020/21 season but eventually the form started declining after a season.
Ten Hag- 9/10
Erik Ten Hag has recently produced some wonderful results across Europe. He plays a 4-3-3 formation which at times looks like a 4-2-3-1 because of the third midfielder’s position. If United somehow manages to lure him to join our forces, Donny Van De Beek can show his true colors as there would be a vacancy due to the extra midfielder’s position.
On the other hand, Ten Hag, portrays a prototypical modern manager who plays a more dominant possession-based football and uses two full-backs and wingers. In such a situation, Dalot and Telles can play a major role in United’s attack rather than just playing their defensive chores.
Ten Hag with this attacking strategy has helped Ajax be the most dominant team across entire Europe. Sebastian Haller is having a wonderful season bagging a total of 10 goals only in the group-stage matches. Ajax’s defensive midfield combo of Ryan Gravenberch and Edson Alvarez provides tireless work rate and play in a box-to-box manner.
What makes United a good destination for him is due to the fact that United has a number of youngsters like Rashford, Sancho and Elanga who can be heavily influenced by his tactics. What’s intriguing with Ten Hag and other managers is that he intends to develop the club. This is something that United is praying for. Rebuilding the squad is the utmost priority. According to many reports, Ten Hag has a huge chance of joining United in the summer transfer window.
Pochettino – 6/10
On the other hand, rumours are being flooded that Mauricio Pochettino is another manager who can take over the managerial role at United. Pochettino plays a 4-2-3-1 formation. Even Pochettino has a similar kind of approach while managing. He instructs his team to build from the back, unsettle opponents with a quick counter attack and play into the box. Pochettino had a wonderful season in the 2018/19 season with Spurs. From struggling to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League to play the Finals in Madrid.
During his brief five years reign for the Whites, he didn’t manage to win a trophy. Spurs had always been a top 6 club but top 4 spot was not something they saw quite often. United has players like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Fred perfectly fitting into the system for him but it could be the same case with Donny as usual, leaving him out on the bench. In PSG as well, Pochettino failed to win the domestic cup. Even though PSG have a tough front three featuring Messi, Neymar and Mbappe his tactics has often failed to produce results. Last summer window, PSG also got Donnarumma in with Sergio Ramos strengthening their defense. With so many experienced players coming in, PSG has still failed to suppress their opponents with their gameplay.
