According to ESPN, Manchester United will take advantage of the one-year extension built into Diogo Dalot’s contract as a result of Barcelona’s rising interest in the player.
After having to wait since joining the team in 2018, Dalot has now solidified himself as the first-choice right-back at Old Trafford. Barcelona has expressed interest in the Portuguese international due to his strong achievements this season for United and Portugal.
Despite signing Hector Bellerin last summer, the Blaugrana will be looking to add another right-back in 2023. This is due to the fact that Sergi Roberto and Bellerin’s contracts will expire at the end of the current campaign. And according to recent sources, Dalot has become the Catalan heavyweights’ top choice for their right-back spot. The 23-year-old’s contract position also makes him an appealing option.

In fact, at the conclusion of the current season, the former FC Porto starlet’s present contract with Manchester United will expire. Barcelona is rumoured to have spoken to his entourage about a potential Bosman transfer next year.
The Red Devils will now exercise the one-year contract extension option to lock down his future for at least until 2024 in order to prevent such a possibility.
Since Dalot will only have a year left on his contract, Barcelona might still try to sign him for a fair price. However, this would prevent Barcelona from signing Dalot for free the following year.
It has been mentioned that Manchester United have demanded €25 million in order to sell the Portugal international. It is unclear if the Spanish giants would be willing to spend that much money on the 23-year-old or search for other options. For now, the Red Devils are in a strong position to hand him a new contract as the defender has been impressed by Erik ten Hag’s philosophy. He had earlier revealed that he wants to be a part of a United team that will be remembered for years.
His contribution to the side has been immense and the United board will mark it as an utmost priority to tie the Portuguese star to a new contract as soon as possible.
